The Bombay High Court has now directed the OTT platform hosting Mohan Krishna Indraganti’s Nandi, Sudheer Babu, Nivetha Thomas and Aditi Rao Hydari starrer V to take down the Telugu movie and delete said scene. The scene refers to her as a commercial sex worker as her picture is shown on the mobile phone to another character. “Simply using anothers image, and most especially a private image, without consent is prima facie impermissible, unlawful and entirely illegal. In a given case, it may also be defamatory, depending on the type of use,” the court said in its order.
V has already been pulled down from the OTT platform, as directed, with the court ordering the production house to only re-upload the film after the scene is deleted. The filmmakers also have to show the film to Sakhi and her advocate before re-uploading it. The production house also claimed, according to reports, that they had contacted an agency to procure the image and had assumed that prior approval would’ve been taken from Sakshi.
Dil Raju produced V under the Sri Venkateshwara Creations banner. The film began streaming on an OTT platform from September 5, 2020 and was later released in theatres on January 1, 2021.
